fringe funk + uptown fun

Over the weekend I got to explore uptown. I ate at Del Frisco Grill and I will say that the patio roof is pretty awesome, but the food nor service was to die for…

The real gem I found was Breadwinners. I’ve heard of this place in passing, but I am guessing that I never really went into depths of what it’s all about.

They have a counter stocked full of homemade deserts from giant snicker doodle cookies to oreo crusted banana pie, not to mention the full loaded bar and your option of margaritas, sangria, and frozen peach bellini. (my kind of place great drinks + awesome desserts) 🙂

I just grabbed desert and looked around this time, but I plan on going back in the near future!

I kept my look pretty simple with a fringe tank that I purchased at a local boutique, palazzo tribal print pants, a simple wedge so my pants would drag the ground to terribly and a burgundy matte lip.

Palazzo pants are fun and can be dress up or down. I like them best for casual outings with a basic top. And as for Fringe– it has appeared in top trends for at least the past 3 summers making grand entrances on fashion runways, stars like Kate Bosworth, at music festivals such as Coachellaand Austin City Limits and ‘the fringe trend’ has even made its way to number 14 of the Como’s 15 Biggest Trends of Spring 2015.

Hole in One

This look was so much fun! I got these jeans from Nasty Girl and kept it simple with a black cami and leopard sandals from Zara. I had a little girl come up to me and ask me about my jeans she asked me, “What’s that?” (and pointed to the hole in my jeans) I told her I couldn’t decide if I wanted to wear shorts or jeans! (She was only 6, so I humored her.) Fashion doesn’t always have to be serious, have fun with your looks and don’t be afraid to step outside the box!

co-ord + fringe and table talk with kris

When I first considered writing a blog I thought about the visuals of my site, outfits and other people’s perception of me. As I actively participate in creating a blog, I am far more interested in the content than anything else. I mean yes I want for my blog to be appealing, for people to appreciate my uniqueness, and my ability to express myself through my personal style. But I am surprising immersed in the content I create; to be able to articulate and create an authentic ability to connect with and inspire people.

Creating content that is well-organized, maintains a flow, and is relative to your readers can be hard especially for a beginner blogger. And in all honesty it can be draining at times, but I stuck in there like a champ and will come out of this week a better and more self-aware person. Hope you enjoy a glimpse at some of my week:

I created a Book List:

All of the books on my list are in some way related to the fashion industry, entrepreneurship, and girl power in general! I would love to add some type of daily devotional books also, so if you know of any please let me know.

Lean In– Nell Scovell and Sheryl Sandberg

Girl Boss– Sophia Amoruso

Stepping Out: Your Strategic Playbook for Launching as an Emerging Entrepreneur– Dondra Bassett

If You Have to Cry, Go Outside: And Other Things Your Mother Never Told You– Kelly Cutrone

Closer– Scott Schuman

I attended Table Talk with Kris:

Last Saturday I attended Table Talk with Kristiahna and enjoyed myself tremendously. Kristiahna also known as Kris created an open dialogue between the panelists made up of successful business women/entrepreneurs and ladies in attendance.  We came together to network, enjoy each other’s company, discuss everyday issues, be inspired by one another’s stories and reach our highest potential. Entry to the event was complementary and included a small brunch, vender shops, and great panelists that shed light on several topics and real life situations. I met a lot of great ladies and gained guidance on allowing yourself to be transparent in order to impact the lives of others, the importance of simplifying your brand and counteracting negative thoughts among much more. You can find out more information about Kris’s next event here.

I met this doll at the event, Doni Brown stylist, fashion blogger, and panelist of Table Talk with Kris. She is so sweet and so down to earth!

I tried out a new restaurant:

I went to Urban Taco off McKinney Avenue in Dallas for the first time a week or so ago to celebrate a promotion for a co-worker, but because it was so many of us and it was happy hour it felt rushed. But I did like the ambiance, location and the tacos so after the table talk event I went back for a full on experience. It’s not your typical Mexican style restaurant, but they have a variety of street style tacos and their house margaritas on the rocks are amazing! Don’t go expecting chips and queso though; their queso is pan-fried cheese, but the variety of salsa makes up for it. Kinda. Sorta. Well not really, because Texas people loooove queso, but the huge patio and drink specials definitely make up for it!

Co-Ord + Fringe:

My co-ord set came from Hollister. I snagged it over the holiday season while on sale. Yes I shop sale and yes I buy things months in advance for no apparent reason. Guilty as charged! And needless to say this particular co-ord is no longer in stock, but I did find some awesome co-ords with similar colors or style here, here, and here. I paired it with my favorite Go Jane fringe chunky wedge and a dainty little headband from Nasty Gal.

5 ways to invest in yourself

We live in a world where it is acceptable to “invest” in the latest phone, handbag and cars; but we rarely speak of investing in ourselves. I made a declaration to myself that I would devote more of my time and money investing in my personal brand, business ideas, education, and overall progression. Here are 5 ways to invest in yourself and your future.

Before we start honestly answer these questions:

What do I do with my free time?

What have I done to better myself in the last 30 days?

When is the last time I did something I love? And what was it?

The answers you give will provide you a better understanding of where you are currently putting your energies and will allow you to see where you should start in this list.

 1. Be social

Stay updated with events that are going on in your area or within driving distance where likeminded people will attend and speak on topics that deal with where you are currently in your life, or in ideal walks of life. Meeting people with similar interest and goals is one of the few benefits from attending these types of events

 2. Start where you are

I cannot stress this enough. Use what you have and grow with your work. I know it can be hard when the gap between where you are and where you want to be seems so big. But that last thing you want to do during your growth stages is spend a ton of money on something that isn’t necessary.

 3. Develop your skills

Become an expert on the subject matter. Instead of spending hours on end Instagram staking; use that time to research everything related to your field of interest. Read a book that will help you discover your strengths or that can help encourage you on your current journey. Go to informational session and engage others. Do whatever you can to increase your skill set within that topic.

 4. Understand that your time is money

Get organized. Whether you use an app, calendar, or to-do list create some type of organization in your life and block out time to foster your dream, goal, and or passion.

 5. Create a bigger vision of yourself

You have to make a declaration to yourself that you are more than a conqueror; that you are an overcomer, and that set backs are lessons for that which you are becoming. A great way to go this is to speak affirmations to yourself every morning, create a vision board, or keep sticky notes posted in places you frequent that speak life into where you want to be yourself in the future. Create goals big and small that you can check off as accomplishments.

Everything that you desire for your life is within reach. Be thankful for humble beginning, because they will make for the best stories as you continue to rise and build your own personal empire.

“If you want to invest in something

with  minimal  risk and  guaranteed  BIG return,

invest in yourself.”

ribbed crop top + wrap skirt

How amazing is this floral wrap skirt?!. I am completely obsessed at the moment partly because I will be able to pair it was pretty much anything because of its color and style. Mainly because I thrifted it from Goodwill for $5! Yessssssss! Because of the skirts busy floral pattern I would consider it the lead piece, so I paired it with a simple ribbed crop top from TopShop to even out the look. I will tell you now, two things I am big on is FIT + PRICE. I scored this crop for under $20 and it fit seamlessly, and maintained a neat appearance without a bra; which can be hard sometimes for us busty ladies. I finished off the look with my go to strappy sandals by Steve Madden, a few gold accessories, and my Kitty sunnies from Quay Australia! This look can totally be worn with gladiator sandals or booties for a more comfy look.

mauve madness

This past weekend was filled with so much love, laughter, and of course fashion. I attended a birthday celebration for a dear friend wearing this co-ord set from Missguided paired with heels from GoJane and carrying a clutch gifted to me, from my sister. I fell in love at the first site of this Mauve colored two piece on Missguided.com! I am living for pastels at the moment and I’m all in for a good co-ord set. I enjoy ordering from Missguided, because I know that the items will be of quality (non of that thin see-through stuff!?.), fast shipping and they have an easy return policy if needed. This Slinky Knot Front Crop and Midi also comes in Nude, Rust, and Black to name a few. I like to wear things that go together, but not necessary match (if that makes any sense?!.) And in that case, my baby blue ankle strap pointy heels from GoJane was the shoe for the job. Normally I am not much of a clutch person; I will literally carry the same bag until the DEATH of it! But I have started to see the value of using a clutch or purse to tie a look together, which is exactly what I did with my gifted magazine clutch!

riri’s purple rain

Riri Bad Gal has been all over social media spotted at Coachella over the weekend sporting a violet lip stain from Free Spirits Cosmetic, her friend’s make up line. The lip stain Purple Haze retails for $25, but of course it’s currently out of stock. But if you need a dupe to hold you over until the site restocks a lot of sites are suggesting Too Faced Melted Violet, but if you don’t want to splurge on a dupe get the look for less with the L.A. Girl Glazed Lip Paint in Coy for $3.49. It’s a hyper pigmented non-sticky formula. It reminds me of a kid like lip-gloss, but it definitely packs a punch!

color fever

I am always interested in upcoming fashion color palettes, shapes, and styles so it should be to no surprise that I am in pastel frenzy at the moment. But I have always enjoyed soft and subtle hues in contrast to bright and electrifying colors. Don’t get me wrong I still appreciate my hot pinks, neon green and radiant blues, but when I buy them I find that they sit longer that any earth tone that I may buy. So I’m glad pastels came along a saved me from my black, grey and neutral palette. It allows me to venture, but not too far! Here, are Pantone’s Top 10 Colors for Women for Spring let me know which your favorites of the selection are!
