Funny, Witty, Knowledgeable, Helpful and Cute are a few words I would use to describe Amber; who is a Travel Guru and contributor to The Culture Supplier. I had the pleasure of meeting her though a friend that came to the first event I ever hosted for Because Women Love Brunch. Megan! Hey Megs, thanks for the intro! 🙂

Because Women Love Brunch had the opportunity to host Amber as a panelist for our Girl Talk: Catch Flights Not Feelings at Brunch and Bubbly in Dallas, TX a few weeks ago! Here are 5 top notch travel tips Amber provided:

Quick Tips:

  • Be flexible with your dates. If you have the flexibility to move your travel dates, DO IT! I saved $500+ by simply moving the date I traveled.
  • Don’t be afraid to depart from other cities. If you see a deal from another state/city, it may be cheaper to book a flight from there.
  • Don’t procrastinate. Deals book quickly. If you see a deal, grab it as soon as possible!

If you’re having problems securing travel arrangements with your friends (because we’ve all been there), I suggest embarking on a solo trip and/or joining a travel group. A few groups include:

  • Nomadness
  • We Go Too World
  • Tastemakers Africa
  • Black Girls Travel Too

Quick Tips

  • When planning a group trip, make sure all personalities will mess well. If your best friend is Kenya Moore, I suggest leaving her behind.
  • There are also numerous travel groups/chat groups that you can join. This is a great way to make connections all over the world and find people to vacation with. I’ve listed a few groups above and in the attached link. Check them out!

Lodging can get pricey, especially if you don’t know where to look. Hotels and resorts are the most common lodging options for travelers, but there are other housing choices you may want to consider before booking a place to stay.

Options Include

  • Hostels (inexpensive lodging and an excellent way to meet other travelers from around the world)
  • Airbnb (personal favorite)
  • HomeAway
  • (hosts provide FREE housing)
  • Farmstays (free housing is provided to guest in exchange for labor on a farm).
Quick Tips
  • Read reviews and compare prices before booking accommodations.
  • If you feel uncomfortable sleeping in a hostel or Airbnb, book a hotel. This is your vacation (not mine). At the end of the day, you should be 100% comfortable with the location.

7 fun facts about me

I would normally write about all of the shows that I went to today at NYFW, but I have really been on a self discovery journey. Taking time to reflect on where I’ve been, where I am currently at in life, and what my goals will be for 2017.

In my reflection I thought it would be cool to share 7 fun facts about myself!

  1. If I am super busy I can forget to eat. If I am sad or stressed I think I deserve ice cream. Terrible I know, but what can I say?! I am a women, therefore I am allowed to be an emotional eater. 😩😂
  2. I was offered a job in Irvine, California right as I graduated college. I wanted to accept it soooo bad, but I was nervous to move so far away. 6 years later I moved from Dallas to San Francisco.
  3. 3 years ago I was let go from my job. I was so sad. I’m talking about the crying, can’t eat, and don’t want to get out of bed sad. I prayed and I truly believed that God would provide. Every time I started to stress I would play gospel music and pray continuously. The year I got fired I found a new job, worked a part time job and made more money than I had every made in a year! I haven’t looked back ever since. Glory to God. 🙏🏾
  4. By the time I was 20 I had graduated from a 4 year Univesary with my bachelors in Business Marketing.
  5. I don’t know how to fry any foods. Literally. Chicken. French Fries. Nothing. I bake or sautéed everything. 🍗🍗🍟
  6. I used to bite my nails since I was a kid. I just stopped about a year ago.
  7. I’ve traveled to 4 states by myself Flordia, California, Missouri, and New York. ✈️✈️✈️

Sophisticated Poser

Who is She: Designer Chasity Sereal at FGNYFW

Who is She is an evolutionary segment on Sophisticated Poser where we highlight movers and shakers of our generation; pioneers of this new age world. On my recent coverage of NYFW I was jumping for joy when I found out that designer Chasity Sereal was representing none other than Houston, TX. It was only befitting that she join Karen Civil and Jessica Chinyelu in our line up of visionaries.

Who is She- Karen Civil

I am starting a series on powerful, inspiring and life changing women called ‘Who is She’.

The series will cover powerful women from humble beginnings that are pioneers of our generation. I am in awe by the first person that will be represented in this series: Media Maven, Digital Pop Culture Curator, and Philanthropists Karen Civil. Born and raised in Brooklyn, New York and raised in Elizabeth, New Jersey.

Karen is known for her launch of an online journal for Lil Wayne during his 8 month incarceration, her work as Social Media Director with Beats by Dre, and lifestyle brand called Live Civil. Get to know Karen
