Tropical Prints For Summer: Yay Or Nay?

I know. I know. When you think floral, you think of an old guys in a Hawaiian shirt. But the new trend for tropical prints, palm trees and giant floral rolled out at NYFW14 and with big names such as Misguided, Adidas, TopShop, and Michael Koros all dropping their summer mech it seems like they are here for the long haul.

I know. I know. Your thinking, Florals. For Summer? Not my thing. But I think if used correctly these prints will have you dripping tropical retreat wherever you may go. Whether you will rock this trend all dolled up with a heel or more casual with sneakers there are some hot styles no matter what category you fall under; everything from sporty spice to Carrie Bradshaw!

I typically don’t wear a lot of floral print, but I can guarantee that every piece that I do own, was bought either for a vacation or even while on vacation; but not this time around! When you are mastering the prints don’t be afraid to go for the brightest and boldest colors and prints! To help I’m going to dish on three ways you can ease into this trend and bring tropical prints to your very own concrete jungle.

Check out the gallery below for four ways to rock a tropical print away from the beach:

1. Walk that Walk.

When rocking a tropical print I recommend sticking with a nude, black or a soft grey shoe and the more comfortable you get with the color pallets go cray cray and opt for a fun and spunky color!

2. Dress the part.

Nothing says I’m ready for summer like little shift dress with a floral print. If it seems to bold feel free to pair it with a solid over piece to help tone your look down while still adding dimension.

3. Get Casual.

I know it’s all fun and game until you need a really cute and comfy look to stroll around town in! And I’ve got you covered! Get a floral top that you can dress down with short and sneakers. Later you can pair it with skinny jeans and a classic stiletto to take your look from day to night!
